Bianchi Specialissima 1977 - Campagnolo Super Record - Mavic SSC - Original condition.
Bianchi is the oldest still existing bicycle company in the world, founded in 1885 by Eduardo Bianchi in Milan, Italy. With the name and the typical "Celeste" probably everyone who loves cycling and old racing machines connects something.
In the entire 135-year history of Bianchi, the names "Campione del mondo" and then a little later the "Specialissima" models represent the pinnacle of the road bike legend. The "Specialissima" frame was introduced in the late 1950s as the successor to the famous "Campione del mondo" model and remains Bianchi's top model to this day.
In the early 1970s, Bianchi returned to the professional peloton as the main sponsor of the Bianchi-Campagnolo team. The team was a continuation of the Salvarani team led by Vittorio Adorni, winner of the 1965 Giro d'Italia and 1968 World Champion, and the Bianchi-Campagnolo team was one of the strongest teams at the time with 1972 and 1973 World Champions Marino Basso and Felice Gimondi on board.
The bike presented here is a Specialissima from September 1977 in complete original condition. The Celeste has great depth and probably triggers something in every lover of old classic road bikes. Finding an early Specialissima in this condition is quite something. Many frames have either broken down over time due to intensive use, received little care or attention, or been lovelessly repainted in an inappropriate color. Here everything is original! The frame has been built with the first Campagnolo Super Record parts. Everything as delivered in 1977. An absolute highlight are certainly the legendary Mavic S.S.C. rims, which are spoked here in Campagnolo high flange hubs. I have left the original Campagnolo Hoods on the brake levers, as these have developed a very nice patina in the last 45 years. (Repo can be supplied with.) Of course, the matching 3ttt cockpit with the Superleggero handlebar and pantographed stem should not be missing. Regina sprocket and Regina chain are also still the original equipment from '77. Even you nice thick Campagnolo cables have not been replaced all these years.
Everything on this bike is original except the tires and handlebar tape - all 45 years old.
I think for a Bianchi Specialissima you hardly need many more words - pictures speak for themselves here.
This bike is a cultural asset - you can ride it, you can hang it on the wall as a work of art, or just be happy to own such a bike.
